Assessing compatibility of excipients selected for a sustained release formulation of bilberry leaf extract

The study is aimed to assess the compatibility of bilberry leaf powder extract (BLPE) with six excipients selected for sustained-release (SR) tablet formulation. BLPE was obtained addition L-arginine and Myo-inositol as carriers. Thermogravimetric (TG-DTG) analysis Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), supported by Pearson correlation analysis, were applied detect possible interactions in binary mixtures (1:1) each excipient. TG-DTG showed some deviations thermal behavior / excipient mixtures. However, only magnesium stearate mixture significantly differed from individual samples, which suggested chemical interaction this FTIR confirmed that compatible Eudragit L100, Methocel K4M, K100LV, Avicel PH-101, Plasdone S-630. Whereas it undergoes solid-state stearate. According FTIR-spectra, results formation stearic acid alkalization medium. These findings evidence possibility using an independent technique studies also confirm earlier reported basic lubricants, e.g., salts, active ingredients containing amino groups.
